It is interesting your point about printed books being so general, that reminds me of what has happened to TV. Nothing is really specialized and it is so dumbed down.
using micro 4/3rds cameras is also an affordable way to shoot wildlife these days, you can get close to the animals without having to bay $3000 and up for a lens.
Although it is not that original, my husband and I love going to the locations you suggest and try to get the same shot you feature. We find it is a great way to improve our own skills as amateur photographers.
